In the book The Fellowship of the Rings, it starts off with Bilbo turning 111 and the party he has prepared for it. Bilbo Baggins then has very strong ties with the ring of power forged by the elves long before. Bilbo is then persuaded by the wizard Gandalf the Grey and he leaves it to his nephew Frodo. Gandalf then tells Frodo many years later that the dark lord Sauron’s power is growing again and tells Frodo to take it away from the shire.
Frodo then sets out on a journey with three of his friends Sam, Merry, and Pippin. During the start of their journey they are lost in the old forest. Merry and Pippin are trapped by a willow tree and Tom Bombadil rescues them from the tree and the forest. Tom Bombadil was an old man with a long beard that was basically an entity and was the oldest creature in Middle Earth.
During their journey they encounter the nine Ringwraiths of Sauron and are known as The Black riders. These were servants of Sauron that were out for the ring of power, which is held by Frodo. During their travels they meet many friends one of them is Aragorn. Aragorn is a man that saved the lives of the Hobbits so many times.
At some point Frodo sustains a wound by a weapon of Sauron's servant plagues Frodo and is then treated by Elrond in the Council.
Symbols in the story of the Fellowship were the rings of power. The nineteen rings of power that were spread out among middle earth all have specific powers of their own. There was one ring to rule them all and Frodo had it in his hands. This ring would provide invisibility to the person who wears it. Only Hobbits were able to bear the ring as well. Sauron had a ring, and this ring had so much immense power that wields incredible pressure on the wearer and corrupts them to darkness. There is an elvish poem that explained the rings of power.
“Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie."
